Privacy policy

Last updated: 11 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information Dance Africa Network collects, why, and what your rights are under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Who we are

Dance Africa Network (Pty) Ltd, registration number 2020/449657/07, is the responsible party for the personal information described here.
Registered office: 12A Dover Street, Westdene, Johannesburg

Information Officer: Leon Andrew Labuschagne (Director)
Deputy Information Officer: Paul Luthando Nqambule (Director)
Privacy requests: info@danceafricanetwork.co.za, 079 654 6617

What we collect

When you add a listing, we collect two kinds of information:

  • Listing information that we publish: the business or group name, type, dance styles, description, address or area, and the public contact details you choose to share.
  • Your own details, which we never publish: your name, role, email address and phone number, and a record that you confirmed you are 18 or older and agreed to this policy.

When you browse the site, we do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not run analytics that identify you.

Near-me search asks your browser for your location. Your location is used on your own device to sort results by distance. It is not sent to us or stored.

Why we collect it

  • To publish and maintain your listing in the directory.
  • To check that a listing is genuine and that you are entitled to add it.
  • To contact you about your listing.
  • To send you our newsletter, only if you ticked the separate newsletter box. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Giving us your details is voluntary. Without your contact details, we cannot accept a listing, because we need to verify it.

Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, under agreements that require them to protect it:

  • Website hosting (Hostinger), which stores the site and its database on servers in the United Kingdom. The United Kingdom’s data-protection law (UK GDPR) gives protection comparable to POPIA, and our hosting agreement binds Hostinger to protect the information, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
  • Map images come from OpenStreetMap. When you view a map, your browser requests map tiles directly from OpenStreetMap servers, which receive your IP address like any website you visit. When you use “Find on map” on the listing form, the business address you typed is sent to OpenStreetMap’s address lookup service to place the pin.

We may disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

  • Your private contact details are kept while your listing is on the site and deleted within 12 months after it is removed.
  • Details from listings we do not accept are deleted within 90 days.

How we protect it

Access to submitter details is limited to the DAN team. The site uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), strong passwords, and up-to-date software.

If we believe personal information has been accessed without authorisation, we will notify the Information Regulator and the people affected as soon as reasonably possible.

Age

Listings are added and managed by adults (18 or older). Dance Africa Network lists businesses and organisations, not individual students, so we do not collect personal information about learners.

Your rights

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email info@danceafricanetwork.co.za. We will respond within a reasonable time.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator.

Our PAIA manual is available on request from the Information Officer.

Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top.
